Sensational Solomona – 2008
There is nothing quite like the old days, so sit back and take a look as kiwileaguecentral.com checks out this week in Warriors history. (Main photo: Malo Solomona. Credit: photosport.nz).
In a match full of seasoned first-graders and representative stars, it was a 21-year-old playing his third NRL match who stole the show when the Warriors and Bulldogs clashed in this round back in 2008.
Playing on the wing, Malo Solomona scored his first NRL try in the 25th minute to ensure it would always be a match to remember, but his performance was about to become a whole lot more special as the Warriors dismantled the Dogs.
His double came just before the break, before a third in the dying exchanges capped off a spectacular showing in a 40-22 victory.
Other stars that day were Lance Hohaia, Ruben Wiki and a young Sonny Fai who was playing in the centres.
Solomona managed only five more career NRL games from that point on, and never scored another try. These days he is still running around in Auckland’s Fox Memorial Premiership for the Pt Chevalier Pirates.
