Magic McKinnon scores amazing try – 2007
One of the greatest solo tries ever produced by someone in a Warriors jersey.
It all started when veteran Penrith playmaker Craig Gower launched a kick across his body from the halfway line and found Patrick Ah Van after a single bounce, Ah Van then offloaded to a flying Wade McKinnon 35 metres out from his own line.
At this point a try still wasn’t on the radar, but from there McKinnon eased through the first line, stepped one, then another, somehow spotted Nathan Smith attempting a tackle behind him, and fended him off from around his lower back.
Time seemed frozen when he stepped another and then carried Michael Jennings over the line to complete his 65-metre run with an outrageous four-pointer.
Most of the 9,978 fans at Mt Smart Stadium erupted, commentator Jason Costigan gushed in praise and McKinnon got mobbed by teammates.
The Warriors went on to annihilate the Panthers 54-14 that night, with Michael Witt joining McKinnon is scoring a double.
Louis Anderson, George Gatis, Wairangi Koopu, Epalahame Lauaki and Manu Vatuvei all crossed for tries as well.
