Dream debut for Locke – 2009
A cold Penrose night in late May, lit up by one of the best debuts by a Kiwi player in the NRL era.
A slightly built speedster named Kevin Locke had already drawn lavish praise from former Kiwis coach Graham Lowe while playing in the lower grades, and didn’t disappoint when given his shot in the big time.
The Northcote Tigers junior scored two classy tries – going over in the 30th and 78th minutes – to help the Warriors to a 14-0 victory over the Wests Tigers. He also kicked a goal to cap off an excellent debut.
The win helped the Kiwi side to a first victory in five games.
Currently Locke isn’t signed with a club, and has recently been seeing running water for the Pt Chevalier Pirates in Auckland’s Fox Memorial Premiership.
