Waikato have produced the upset of the National Competition by beating last year’s runners-up Counties Manukau Stingrays to earn a spot in the Premiership Grand Final.

After winning the promotion/relegation game in 2016 to force their way into the Premiership grade, Waikato will now face defending champions, the Akarana Falcons on Saturday, October 7.

Counties Manukau’s loss to Waikato on Saturday pushes the team into fourth place, meaning they will face off against the Bay of Plenty Lakers in a bid to maintain their spot in the Premiership grade.
