NZRL cancel all national competitions and tournaments
The New Zealand Rugby League has ruled out running any of their representative competitions and tournaments for the remainder of the year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The ruling doesn’t include district club competitions or activities, meaning club rugby league competitions around the country could still be held in 2020.
NZRL CEO Greg Peters said from a financial point of view the decision had to be made.
“We are extremely disappointed that these competitions will not happen in 2020, but unfortunately, it was a decision that had to be made for the financial longevity of our game,” Peters said.
“Due to the extensive consequences of this pandemic across the code, we have had to make some significant short term sacrifices in order to see the game thrive long after this virus is contained.”
