Former Kiwi international Tony Coll has his local Mayor to thank for saving his life, after suffering a heart attack while out on a bike ride.

Stuff.co.nz’s Joanne Carroll reported that Coll, who represented New Zealand between 1972 and 1982, was out riding with close friend and Grey District Mayor Tony Kokshoorn on Saturday when his heart stopped.

Kokshoorn performed CPR on Coll until an ambulance arrived. Coll was taken to Christchurch Hospital where he remains in intensive care.
