kiwileaguecentral.com takes a look at the latest round of NRL action from a New Zealand point of view.

Kiwis were responsible for 14 tries in Round 6, with Manly’s Steve Matai and Penrith flyer Dallin Watene-Zelezniak leading the way with doubles on Saturday night.

Matai was instrumental in his return to Auckland, as the Sea Eagles got up 34-18 over the Warriors.

In a beaten team Solomone Kata continued his excellent start to the year by scoring another try – his seventh of the season – as well as running for 121 metres. Thomas Leuluai also made a successful comeback from a serious knee injury sustained last year.

The game which followed saw the Cowboys edge past a plucky Penrith outfit, but along the way Watene-Zelezniak and Te Maire Martin joined forces to score arguably the ‘Kiwi combo’ try of the year. Watch it below.

For the Cowboys Jason Taumalolo averaged over 10 metres per carry for an overall total of 216.

Both Jordan Kahu and Alex Glenn scored for the Broncos as they shut the Dragons out 26-0, with Benji Marshall missing the clash through injury. Russell Packer was consistent in the front-row, and ran for 93 metres off eight carries.

Sosaia Feki had high involvement from the wing in Cronulla’s 25-20 win over the Gold Coast, running for 109 metres and touching down for a try.

Former Auckland Vulcans favourite Agnatius Paasi was energetic off the bench for the Gold Coast, playing 45 minutes and racking up 17 runs, a number matched only by Greg Bird in terms of Titans players.

Parramatta easily accounted for the Raiders, with Manu Ma’u starring on the edge and Kenny Edwards registering a four-pointer after coming off the bench.

The real eye-catcher however was Kieran Foran’s try below, showcasing a rarely seen step which made some Canberra defenders look very ordinary.
