Kiwis abroad – August 4

Check out the latest news involving our Kiwis playing league outside of New Zealand and Australia, with our wrap of the action from around Europe.

Former New Zealand Warriors centre Carlos Tuimavave has helped Hull FC through to a second-consecutive Challenge Cup final with a double in their 43-24 victory over Leeds in the semi.

Tuimavave was joined by fellow Kiwis Fetuli Talanoa and Sika Manu on the park for the Airlie Birds.

FC will attempt to defend their title against reigning Super League champions the Wigan Warriors, who beat Salford 27-14 in the other semi.

Frank-Paul Nuuausala, Thomas Leuluai and Anthony Gelling also took the field for Wigan.

It was an unhappy debut outing for new Salford Red Devil Manu Vatuvei, although the former Kiwi international had a number of classy touches.

In the League 1 Super 8s (that’s effectively a series of play-off to contend for promotion to the second-tier), the York City Knights caused one of the upsets of the season in downing the Toronto Wolfpack 26-16.

The loss was Toronto’s first in a stellar debut season in Europe. The Wolfpack contain Kiwi lads Quentin Laulu-Togaga’e and Fuifui Moimoi.
