Kiwis abroad – August 11

Check out the latest news involving our Kiwis playing league outside of New Zealand and Australia, with our wrap of the action from around Europe.

In the Super 8s Harrison Hansen’s Leigh Centurions got past Featherstone Rovers 38-12, with Misi Taulapapa scoring for the losing side, while London came agonisingly close to an upset win over Catalans Dragons, losing 20-18 in the south of France.

Both sides had Kiwi try-scorers, with Louis Anderson getting over for the hosts and Junior Warriors product Mark Ioane dotting down for the Broncos.

Sam Moa carried for 139 metres for the Dragons while Justin Horo was in the leading group for tackles made with 39.

Manu Vatuvei scored his first try as a Salford Red Devil, and then quickly grabbed his second, but it wasn’t enough to stop a rampant Hull FC, who had Vatuvei’s former New Zealand Warriors teammate Carlos Tuimavave go over for a double and Fetuli Talanoa also score.

Sam Rapira, Ukuma Ta’ai and Sebastine Ikahihifo helped Huddersfield to a big 36-6 win over Wakefield and Zeb Taia grabbed a four-pointer for St Helens in a 26-12 win over front-runners Castleford.

Elsewhere Peta Hiku ran for over 150 metres and scored a try for Warrington.

In the Championship Shield, Toulouse piled further misery on the Bradford Bulls with a 26-10 victory in Yorkshire, which saw Constantine Mika and Andrew Bentley start in the pack for the French outfit and Pt Chevalier Pirates junior Tyla Hepi come off the bench.

Quentin Laulu-Togaga’e was one of Toronto’s seven try-scorers on a 68-0 shutout of Workington Town.
