England have gone 1-0 up in the Test series against New Zealand, with a late try to Oliver Gildart securing a 18-16 victory on Sunday morning NZT.
Scores were locked at 12-all at the break, and after trading scores through the second 40, England struck the killer blow with 12 minutes to play.
Former New Zealand Warrior Sam Tomkins opened the scoring, before the Kiwis levelled via Esan Marsters and then took the lead thanks to a try from Dallin Watene-Zelezniak.
The Kiwis kicked two penalties in the second 40, but it wasn’t enough to get the result.
The second Test is in Liverpool.
